2024-2025 Match Play Open SZN
Background:
After the highly successful 23-24 overhaul to STROH’s Match Play, we’re running back the Open Season concept! Play who you want, when you want, where you want, (mostly) how you want!
Austin Alaniz returns as Open SZN Czar, and Andrew Litschi returns as Open SZN Quant
Dates:
This season’s OpnSZN Regular Season will run from September 18th 2024 until April 6th 2025.
Playoffs deadlines will be:
- 04/27: First round Playoff Match Deadline
- 05/18: Quarterfinal Match Deadline
- 06/08: Semifinal Match Deadline
- 06/29: Final and Consolation Match Deadline
Rules and Details:
The OpenSZN competition is designed around an open-season player pool, which allows all registered STROH’s to compete against whoever they choose and collect points. At the end of the Regular Season, the Top 12 points scorers will advance to the Playoff Bracket, with the Top 4 players earning a bye into the Quarterfinals.
Open Season allows for three match formats:
- Singles:
- Traditional H2H Match Play
- Handicapped off of the low player
- 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss
- Fourball (Best Ball):
- Two-player teams playing a Best Ball match against another Two-player team
- Handicapped off the low player in the group
- 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss
- Can be played in conjunction with a Singles match, but teammates cannot play each other
- Ex. Players A and B challenge Players C and D to a Fourball match to be played in round X
- Player A can also play a singles match against Player C and a singles match against Player D in Round X
- Player A cannot play a singles match against Player B in Round X
- Alt-Shot:
- Two-player teams will play an alternate shot match, where Player A tees off on even holes, Player B tees off on odd holes
- Handicapped at 50% of each player’s handicap (ex. Player A is a 10, Player B is an 8, they’re team handicap is thus 10*0.5 + 4*0.5 -> 5 + 2 -> 7
- 4 points for a win, 2 points for a draw, 0 for a loss BUT 1 point kicker for all participants as an Alt-Shot Incentive Bonus
